The doctor is out, part 2
I’ve been hitting the books pretty hard over the past two weeks. If you’ve ever seen the movie Groundhog Day, you’ll recognize that everyday I wake up at the same time, study for about 10-12 hours, and then go back to bed. Nothing’s worse than testing my current level of knowledge by taking a practice test and only getting half of the questions right. Then I remind myself—doctors are only half right most of the time anyway.
Just remember: Huntington’s disease = methylation of histones = silencing of genes = (somehow) dance-like movements. Oh, and tri-nucleotide repeats have anticipation.

Don’t forget those are CAG repeats that progressively worsen through fenerations in an AD manner. 13 days to Step 1 and counting. I now hate First AID.

I’ve given up on First Aid. It was helpful during the school year for getting quick mnemonics, but the book doesn’t explain enough for thorough studying. Many of the Qbank questions cannot be answered simply with the knowledge from First Aid.

Study your balls off for step 1. It is the most important thing in determining the success of your residency match. We had a copy of first aid that several of us wrote notes in the margins and passed around after step 1 to highlight what was on our particular tests. This was gold for those who took the test later.
